Unlike a lot of soils on the market for various uses, this is a seed starting mix, not a potting soil. Great for starting seeds cause it doesn’t clump as it dries. And dries easily, just holding enough moisture without holding too much which would allow for root rot. I use it for starting seedlings after germination.

Always use jiffy. I love their pellets and rarely have anything not germinate. So I decided to try the mix as it was realtively cheap compared to its competitors (50% of the cost of espoma) and its ingredients were very similar. Not disappointed. Germinated all my annuals within about 4-5days, my vegetables in 3-4 with only 3 seeds not sprouting. Already bought more.

I have used a major brand potting soil for years and it just seems like it doesn’t do any good for my plants anymore especially for starting seedlings and so I found this and I was so happy with it. I told my son about it and he said that’s what he used to. I start my seeds in this jiffy potting mix. It says it’s organic, but it is so light and it doesn’t have bark and sticks in it and is wet down and it holds the dirt where and some of the other major brands have been yes, puddling up the water, and it took a long time to soak, and I will buyJiffy again.

Excellent product with 95% seed germination indoors prior to the growing season not so much luck when I tried to grow seeds outdoors when things warmed up. Just didn’t retain moisture as my seeds grown inside as the sun was too strong versus my grow lights. I chalked it up to user error on my part.

will never do potting soil for plant aquarium substrate again a lot of preparation goes into preparing a potted soil substrate fo plants and if not done right, it will end up being a huge mess and soil leaching into water column turning it brown plus a lot of ammonia to deal with too

This soil was hydrophobic. That is, the soil would not absorb the water, but rather repel it. Seedlings will not germinate in water without soil contact.

This is a very good seed planting mix it hydrates rapidly and holds the water very well. It’s also fine enough mixture to allow fragile new plants to thrive.

i always find this type of product especially helpful. a little pricey, so i usually half fill with potting soil then top off with this product. this gives them a few days to grow before they hit the fertilizer. seems to speed up seed development.

I bought four of these 12 qt bags online because they were not yet in stock in the store. It was strange that it took 1 1/2 bags to fill my tray. I remembered using one bag per tray in the past. I bought three more at the local store that now they are in stock and they are one to a tray….

It’s the perfect amount for about two dozen red solo cups if you’re looking to get some tomatoes or peppers started before spring. It says right on the packet its top secret ingredients include 60 to 70% sphagnum pete moss, vermiculite coir pith and lime for PH adjustment. I trust the stuff for no added fertilizer so plan on feeding right away. You could make your own buying bulk and mixing it but what you pay here is for convenience. Open the bag. Field saturate. Use.
