The mixture looked great at first but upon use, discovered that the mix was mostly large wood chunks and chips. For potting mix or soil that isnt not a bad thing. But seed starting mix is supposed to be fine. So it doesnt “smother” the seeds. i found it very hard to put this mix in my seed starting trays. it actually poked large holes in them. i would recommend finding a brand that is better for starting seeds. I was very disappointed that this small bag was basically unusable for what i needed. For regular potting/soil mix I use this brand. but will find alternatives to seed start.

I have read the one star reviews and I have to disagree partly. I tested this product vs another traditional top brand and the germination rates are similar after starting about 15 different types of seeds. But the lettuce I started seemed to grow a little faster in the other product. I see the company responds which is good and I have two suggestions. You need to screen this blend to eliminate the twigs, bark and occasionally pebbles in order to say it is a seed starting mix and modify the added fertilizer to improve early growth. I agree with the philosophy of the product but it needs to be refined.

I am flabbergasted bc this has more bark and sticks in it than their potting soil. There is no way any seed would start in this. I attached photos – and the bucket is what I pulled out of the mix and those are 2-3 “ each.

BEWARE!!! I wanted Miracle Grow but was substituted with this brand. I should have rejected the substitution but I kept it. I’ve started seeds indoors for 10 years with miracle grow without issues. This is TERRIBLE soil – do NOT use it. First off, it’s full of twigs and bark. Then, I followed my normal process and all I grew was MOLD! mold spores shot up and nothing else grew. Never had this issue with miracle grow before!! BUYER BEWARE – stay away. Now I have to buy Miracle Grow and re-start all my seeds. This is the worst product I’ll never buy again and share on my gardening Facebook pages and friends to stay away!

This had a large amount of sticks and twigs in it, many more than 2 inches long. The finer part feels like finally shredded roots and fiber more than fine, light soil. it did not germinate my seeds yearly as well as another brand that I used with the same type of seeds in the same seedling tray I would not purchase this again.

I had high hopes for this and bought it since my local Happy Frog seller was out, but no, don’t waste your money. This was full of big pieces of bark and sticks, and after one day of being opened was full of fungus gnats. Try something different if you’re starting seeds.

This mix had way too many chunks of mulch. Found that I had to sift through the bag. It is very soft but way too much mulch for my liking. Now I also bought the Jiffy starter soil in yellow bag. It was so much better! I had veggies germinated in a couple days to one week with Jiffy.

This is the absolute worst seed starting mix that I have ever purchased and it was totally infested with tiny little bugs that every time I water they come out of the soil and fly all around so I went and got the bag and looked inside and there they were all in the bag. I will never buy this brand again.

Soil was very dense, had large chunks of mulch. It was clearly fertile due to mushroom growth, held water well but was too dense for seedlings to establish growth. My seedlings had stunted growth. I had to repot in another seed starting mix and they did fine.

Seed starting medium looks good. While I cannot evaluate it completel as seeds have just been planted, I am hoping for good results based on the look and feel of the seed starter medium.
