Hello…. I would like to take a moment and review the ABHILWY Retractable Clothes Line. The first. thing that I noticed is the really nice finish on the main part of the clothes line body. I chose the Gold finish and the looks of the outer box portion are really nice. I really like the lock down feature, after pulling out the clothes line portion to the desired length and locking the end into the opposite end portion.. the main body piece has a lock feature that prevents any sagging in the line part after cloths or other items have been placed on the line. The addition of 5 clothes line clips was also really nice, as my wife and I are seniors the clips are easy to open with our aged fingers. One other feature is the coated clothes line, it has a very smooth finish that will help prevent and catches to the threads of the items placed on the clothes line. Both my wife and I are very happy with our purchase of the ABHILWY Retractable Clothesline Clothes Line. The instructions for installation of the ABHILWY Retractable Clothes Line were very easy to understand and the installation did not take me very long to do.

I have to say, this is a great little addition to my bathroom. It only took me twenty years to make the move, so don’t take as long as I did. My husband read the instructions and installed it in short order, making sure it was mounted with our own screws, 2.5″ deck screws, on the studs and put it at a position I could reach and pull with ease. I am 70 years old so we made sure it would be suitable for years to come. (My height is shrinking as is my strength.) This unit works very well and the line stays nice and tight when it is extended while in use. I enjoy the ease of tightening the line after I have extended it, prior to hanging clothes on it. When I’ve finished drying clothes, I just follow the steps of set up in reverse. We should have purchased this years ago! Because it works so well and is a snap to take down, I use it often. We mounted it so any drips from wet clothing fall into the tub below. I love it! No longer do I fight to find places to hang freshly hand washed bras and other apparel. The metal clips included in the package grip the line very well and are easy for me to pinch open and closed. Although we didn’t need to reach out to the seller, I was impressed with the reviews mentioning their great customer service. This is a very useful I read a lot of the reviews for this and similar Retractable Clotheslines to understand the possible problems they might have. One thing which stood out was the reviews mentioning the seller’s support. That is always an important thing to have.

Sleek and aesthetic enough to be put up indoors, and weatherproof/heavy duty enough to go outside, though I expect if you installed outside (and wanted to remove it eventually, as in the case of a rental or moving), you might want to coat your screws with a water-repelling gel to prevent rust. You can buy a pack of that stuff for like $1.50 at pretty much any hardware or auto store.

Line itself is heavy wire coated in a vinyl material, to protect clothes from snags and the wire from water. Lock works well, and is easy to read; for higher visibility, you could easily brush the top of the raised words with a sharpie or other permanent ink. The retractable function is handy bc it doesn’t have to be out all the time, though it’s not quite strong enough to just snap back in, (I assume for safety reasons) you’ll have to walk it back.

The box came packed with instructions (easy enough to follow by context, though I’d recommend trying to read through BEFORE the day of install, just to make sure you’ve got it correct),
all required hardware (screws & optional anchors),
two metal brackets, (1 small, 1 big)
both plastic sides of the clothesline, (1 small, 1 big)
    5 high-tensile metal (no-snag) clothespins,
and what amounts to a small tube of superglue. (???)

Now. I marked & drilled pilot holes into the drywall+stud for the larger side using a drill and around a 3/8th bit. Aligned the plate and swapped for a philips bit, and screwed the bugger into the wall for real. Quick and easy. Main line box slides right over the plate and clicks into place, meaning if you don’t hear/feel a click, it’s not secure.
    ✨MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON A STUD!✨
It’s gotta hold up to 45 lbs, after all! Don’t wreck your drywall by missing the stud underneath.

On the receiving side (make sure you measure to make sure the line will reach) I was working on bare concrete, so I swapped for a rotary hammer. Loud & messy, and not my favorite tool to use –but that’s on me, not the product.
Anyway, rinse & repeat. Place the smaller plate where you want it, mark the holes, and drill pilots. I had to use a 3/8th ✨Masonry Bit✨ for concrete. Remember those optional anchors? Those are intended for masonry or brick. A screw’s threads won’t cut into stone the way they do wood. Tap anchors in the pilot holes GENTLY (or they’ll bend) with a hammer til they’re flush. Swapped masonry bit out for the phillips head & the rotary hammer function off. Align plate with pilot holes, screw the sucker in. Once the metal plate is affixed, the plastic cover snaps over it and you’re done. The end of the line snaps down into the plate FIRMLY with no wiggle. Watch your fingertips! Lock the line (from the other side) & you’re set.

I love this cute lil thing. LOVE that it retracts into a small little box. Definitely safe for clothes, thanks to the coated line. Holds plenty of weight as long as it’s installed properly & the line is locked. Make sure you set your install point high enough that what you’ll hang wont drag (think a few inches taller than a beach towel).
Only reason I gave it a 4 star for “ease of install” was bc of my necessary install location lol. That said, if you want to mount this thing to concrete or brick like I did, you’ll NEED a hammer drill or a rotary hammer, depending on the age/hardness of said stonemasonry. DO NOT FORGET those anchors.
In the event of attaching to wood, a regular drill will do.

TL;DR: Use common sense & correct tools.
    Read the instructions before starting.
Check the distance b/w intended points on STUDS.
Check the desired install height; add 3 inch for droop.
    Measure twice, drill once.

**Note:** I fully skipped the glue, because I wasn’t entirely sure why they inculded it in the first place.

The installation was ok, but the product itself was pretty bad. I hung three t-shirts and the line already loose and the shirts slid towards the center. The distance the line is pulled out was roughly 3 feet.

Excellent product. Remarkably strong. Mine is installed on my balcony and love that it’s retractable so no line hanging when not in use. Highly recommend.

Very easy to install and the system seems stable up to far. The cable is recalled slowly enhancing more safety.
Minimal design and almost invisible (mounted on white walls) when not user. Perfect especially in small apartments.

We really needed a compact solution for hanging clothes to dry in our place, so we were thrilled to find this product.

It’s a good little unit. The line is steel and feels very sturdy. We don’t have a tonne of laundry or a long run for the line, so I haven’t tested it under a heavy load, but I suspect it would hold up well.

The mounting hardware is also very solid. We had to put one end into a wooden stud behind drywall and the other into cement, and the provided anchors worked well for both. The steel plates on which the plastic parts are mounted seem very strong.

I hope the plastic is equally good. I would love to see an all-metal version.

Deciphering the setup instructions was a bit challenging. However, once we have up trying to understand every word and diagram and just went by logic, it went well. The trick is that on the main housing, you need to position it so that where the line comes out (not the centre of the unit) is aligned with the centre of the stud and the clip at the other end.

The line sags a bit if you just string it across, which is a shame. It would be great if you could tighten the line after connecting it at the far end. To hang it taut, I actually lock the line before hooking it in. Takes a bit of effort but stays taut once in place.

Overall, I like this unit and would definitely recommend it, but I do see opportunities for improvement.

P.S. The seller is also the manufacturer, and they seem really nice! I wish them continued success.

Great in theory. The problem is even if you get the line as tight as you can and lock it, it still has callback and all your clothes slide to the middle. This happens with even just 3 things on it.

I wanted a drying line that looked nice in my closet but also works well and this fits the bill. I like that it’s not big and clunky and something I have to drag out if I have a few things to air dry. The lock function holds the line tight and keeps it from sagging. It goes a good distance and I was able to dry 3 shirts and 3 pair of pants plus some smaller undergarments in the space I have it. I like that it’s tucked away in my closet and not in the hallway or living areas. It was also easy to install.

I found this easy to install; based off other reviews and general personal experience I figured the drywall anchors or adhesive that came with the package might not be the way to go, so I got out a stud finder and made sure the screws were mounted directly into a stud – I’ve had no issues with the pieces pulling off the wall, after putting many heavier objects on the line for almost two months.

I also extended the line a few inches with a length of chain from the hardware store – I’m using the black plastic line with hanger holes at its full length to get the advantage of my upstairs skylight for drying inside during the day. Sagging isn’t an issue so long as you lock the line – I don’t remember seeing that in the instructions so it took a couple uses for me to realize I could lock it. In the attached photo the line is locked and has a load of towels hung on it with practically no sag.

The line retracts smoothly and the little holding box folds away to sit against the wall with minimal footprint when not in use. I’ve used both the hanger holes and just draped things directly on the line with no issue.

I only bought this because my landlord is being characteristically slow to fix a broken dryer, but line drying has been very convenient (and with this line there’s no extra storage space needed as there would be for a drying rack, an important consideration in an apartment) and obviously a better environmental choice, so I’m actually quite glad I got this and would buy it again just because.

it’s a pretty cool unit I like the stainless wire and the clips and it seems to work well I would’ve given it five stars except the mounting bracket on the main unit that has the retractable wire in it fits rather loosely and shakes around and it’s possible to knock it off when you’re trying to pull the wire out
